Week #10 Prefer Action Over Inaction
May 13th, 2009 | By Chris Bailey | Category: 10 Weeks to Supreme Productivity, ProductivityThis is the final installment of the ten week blog series entitled “10 Weeks to Supreme Productivity.” To close, I want to leave you with a very simple principle you need to repeat in your daily mantra, “prefer action over inaction.”
Week #10 Tip: Prefer Action Over Inaction
Doing is almost always better than not doing. Missteps can be corrected; failing to act can’t. Perfect is almost never required in any venture. Frustrations occur when we brainstorm and plan, but never do. Constant movement in the direction of a goal will get you there much faster than worrying about the perfect path and being fearful of taking that first step. Some of my best work has been done on the fly, creating as I move forward. Be an implementer, a doer, and you will become the go-to-guy (or gal). Productivity, after all, is about action.
The secret, of course, is to constantly monitor the results of your actions, and to correct and adjust as necessary. Experience will lead you to the true path, and you will learn and grow by doing.
So to summarize the 10 keys to amazing, incredible, supreme productivity:
1. Remember: Expectations Affect Outcomes;
2. Create a Clear Vision;
3. Set Specific Goals with Appropriate Timetables;
4. Create an Action Plan and Implement;
5. Understand the Hawthorne Affect;
6. Apply the 80/20 Rule;
7. Do the Worst First;
8. Manage Your Time and Your Energy;
9. Delegate and Empower Others; and,
10. Prefer Action to Inaction.
